Housing Assistance

Aide au logement

In France, all students (of all nationalities) are eligible for specific government assistance to help finance their housing. France is the only country in Europe to offer such a system.

The main financial aid is distributed by the Caisse d'Allocation Familiale (CAF). Students are particularly concerned by the APL, which stands for "Aide personnalisée au logement". This aid is calculated according to certain criteria:

- Amount of the rent
- Student's resources
- Composition of the household
- Professional situation
Location

The grant is not automatic and its amount is calculated on a case by case basis. It is necessary to proceed to a calculation simulation to know the amount of the help to which you can profit. In order to qualify for this aid, you must also make sure that you meet the following 3 conditions:

- To have your own accommodation in order to be able to indicate your address and the amount of your rent.
- Be registered with the mandatory Social Security system.
- You must have a bank account in France, as the aid is paid directly to the beneficiary every month.
- The request for assistance must be made directly on the CAF website within three months of moving into the apartment.
